Nearly everyday I read of a new fear or theory about “going global.” In fact, if you want to get attention these days—grab headlines, or start tongues wagging—just put the word, “global” in front of whatever your saying.
- It’s getting hotter <— no good. “Global Warming!” <— Now that’s a crisis!
- There are financial worries everywhere you turn. <— BORING! How about, “Global Economic Meltdown imminent!”
Now that second one is really, really good because it has the double advantage of being global in scope and having a subtle reference to the global warming crisis too with the word, “meltdown.” So, you probably have the hang of it already. Need more examples?
No? Tough, here are a few recent headlines anyway:
I could give you more, but I doubt I need to. You’ve seen them yourself. It’s the “new” scare tactic of our day. It’s FEAR on steroids. But before this post creates a global panic, let me get to the point.
None of this is news to God.
Remember the old song, “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands?” Well does He or doesn’t He? You either believe it or you don’t. Even evil dictators and despots aren’t getting in place under God’s radar. Check this scripture out:
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. Romans 9:17
This verse isn’t even form the Old Testament, which is where the entire event of Moses leading the Jews out of Egyptian bondage is located in the first place. This text is from the book of Romans as the apostle Paul writes about this very subject—this very fear.
Who is in control anyway?
Paul wants you and I to know that there is no doubt about who is in control of not only this spinning orb we call earth, but of the entire universe as well. It’s God. Even though evil is very real and present, there is still a force infinitely stronger—a force that ultimately moves all people, governments, nations, natural occurrences, planets—everything! And that, again, is almighty God. And He is moving it all for His ultimate purposes. But here’s what’s really cool for you and me…
He’s moving in your life as well!
If a megalomaniac like Pharaoh could unwittingly be used by God as the very tool for displaying the Almighty’s power and love to His people all those thousands of years ago in a land called Egypt, maybe—just maybe—He can do a great work in your life as well! Not that there are any similarities.
If you are willing.
You were not created to just go to school or work, sit on the couch in front of a TV playing the 85th episode of “Lost.” You have a role to play in the eternal scheme of things!
So what are you waiting for? Get into His Word. Find a Bible believing, exciting, life-transforming church (I happen to have a suggestion on one for you. Go here and check it out.) and hit the ground running.
You’ll never regret it.
