The Treehouse Secret

CIMG3282This is Day three of the tree house saga. We are actually clipping along pretty well. In fact, we are on about day five as of last week, but the blog needs to catch up!

Can I tell you all a secret?

The real reason for the tree house now (of all times) — right in the midst of a grand opening and so many other things in our lives—is because it gives me the best opportunity for the following with my son:

Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.” 4Fathers, don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master. Ephesians 6:1–3

I want to lead my children in such a way as they grow up to be godly adults. But that’s not even enough. I want them to grow up to change the world for Jesus. That’s not unusual for a Christian parent, but it is a bit unusual to find Christian parents with a plan to help make this happen. And I’ve pulled the following right from God’s word…

  • Instruct them (children) according to their bent (the way God shaped them) and they will never stray from it. Proverbs 22:6
  • Teach them to spend time in God’s Word (the Bible) each and every day. Deuteronomy 17:18–20
  • Pray continuously, be thankful and rejoice even when everything isn’t going your way. I Thessalonian 5:16–18

The principles of God are broader than this simple list, but it’s a good start. And the tree house?

It’s a great place to teach him these things.

The Tree house…Day 2

CIMG3232I thought I’d sneak this in between posts.

I haven’t forgotten the old tree house dream. In fact, me and my father in law (Bob the Builder), as well as my son, Nathan, have been hard at it!

<— Here is a shot of day 2 progress:

Obviously, we’ve found the perfect tree. And I don’t want no sissy—3 feet off the ground deal either. This suckers going Mt. Everest high!

Some of you might be thinking, “Will that tree hold all the weight?”

Yes, believe it or not, it will—if it is supported the right way. And Bob the Builder has that well covered. Trust me. Besides, this used to be farm land, and that’s the biggest tree around—therefore, the best.

Anyway, here are a few more shots of the progress on day 2. As always, I will be keeping you informed.

An Amazing and Historic Day @ Southbrook Church!

DSC_0042

Over the last several weeks there have been hundreds of guests pouring into our new worship center. Yesterday there were another 500 or so on top of that! I’ve always believed that God expects us to be extra good stewards of such a tremendous opportunity and blessing as this. And this past weekend—especially—I witnessed our volunteers in every area step up to the task in a HUGE way!

Thanks to everyone who put in the extra hours and stayed late, responded to every request with a smile and genuinely helpful answers and guidance for our guests. You all made a tremendous impact! The emails and letters are pouring in about what a special day it was. And the best part is how special it was for more than 60 adults who gave their lives to Jesus Christ!

That’s what it’s all about!

There were teens and young kids who committed their lives to Jesus as well. I’ll let you know when I hear. I promise!

Meanwhile, I will turn today’s post into picture and movie day. Here are a few pictures from the day to get you started and I will have them added as they come in!

Once again, thanks to everyone who made this grand opening—a grand slam!
